How to duplicate a WordPress Page / Post

Due to some reasons we are required to duplicate a WordPress page or post. Only one or many more. This is depending on the requirement. When redesigning a existing page or if you need to have same page or post for another. Like wise there are so many requirements to need of this.

We can easily get this done via a plugin. So, you’ll not dropping up anything from previous page. All come to the new one without any hassle. Lets install the Duplicate Post plugin. Once install complete you can duplicate the page or post. Here I am assuming you need to duplicate a page. Just navigate to pages and hover over the page title you want to duplicate. You’ll see the following.

How to work with Pages

You can do two things with this plugin.


01. Get the Clone of the Current Page

If you click on Clone it will create the same copy of the selected page as it is. Only override the permalink. As per this example my first Sample Page permalink is https://nerodev/sample-page/ and cloned Sample Page permalink is https://nerodev/sample-page-2/. This is the only difference. Other all are same. Page is in Draft mode until you published it.

02. Get the New Draft of the Current Page

If you get a Draft, you will open up with the selected page with the editor to do edits. You can do all the changes and updates there. Once you complete you can publish this post. Until publish this, post is in the Draft mode as same as the Clone.

How to work with Posts

You can do two things with this plugin.

01. Get the Clone of the Current Post

If you click on Clone, it will create the exact copy of the same post as it is. Only override the permalink. As per this example my first Sample Post (Hello World!) permalink is https://nerodev/hello-world/ and cloned Sample Page permalink is https://nerodev/hello-world-2/. This is the only difference. Other all are same. Post is in the Draft state until publish it.

02. Get the New Draft of the Current Post

If you get a New Draft, you will open up with the post editor to do edits and other all stuff you want to made on that particular post. Once you complete the edits for the post, you can publish this post. Until you publish this post is in the Draft state.
